Period images from the World War II era
IntroductionThe slide presentations in this section are intended to help provide a visual perspective of how, when, and where various uniforms were worn during the WWII era. Quality, clarity, and content vary among different groups of photos, but it is hoped that each presentation, in its own way, will contribute some insight into the usage of various uniforms of the period. In most cases the general geographical area and time will be provided. The identification of specific individuals, units, and exact times and places is beyond the scope and purpose of these presentations and may or may not be included in the presentations depending on whether such information was noted with the photographs or can be ascertained by them. In some cases all that can be known is what is revealed by the photo itself. Additionally, photos may or may not appear in chronological order, as they will for the most part be presented in the order they were acquired. As a matter of historical integrity, some groups of photos will be presented intact, regardless of their content or relevance to any uniform types. |
Warning:For the most part, images contained in this section will be presented uncensored. Therefore, caution is advised when viewing these presentations due to the historical context in which they were taken. Images documenting times of war often depict subjects that some may find upsetting or offensive. Such subjects may include offensive political symbols; religious symbols and ceremonies; scenes of segregation, oppression, or depravation; scenes of death; graffiti, artwork, or images depicting nudity or profanity; and other subjects of the like. While it is not the purpose of these presentations to feature such imagery, some presentations have been left historically intact and may contain such images. When viewing these slide presentations, one should expect the possibility of being exposed to the types of images described above. |
